pumpkin carving tool

Concept

A drill accessory to quickly remove the seeds and strings from a pumpkin. We applied for a full patent and a trademark to protect the idea and the name "The Pumpkin Gutter."

Design

We considered elements like the shape and sharpness of the cutting surface, and the length and diameter of the shaft.

Prototype

We built a four-blade prototype and tested it on various varieties, sizes and shapes of pumpkins. The second prototype went to five blades and a smaller diameter shaft for smoother operation and the ability to fit in all sizes of drills. We held focus groups to solicit ideas regarding packaging, price and where to purchase.

Manufacture

We worked with a local graphics artist to design the packaging and a company in Taiwan to build the first production run. The product arrived packaged and ready to sell.
